Review: Wild Cards by Simone Elkeles

After getting kicked out of boarding school, bad boy Derek Fitzpatrick has no choice but to live with his ditzy stepmother while his military dad is deployed. Things quickly go from bad to worse when he finds out she plans to move them back to her childhood home in Illinois. Derek’s counting the days before he can be on his own, and the last thing he needs is to get involved with someone else’s family drama.

Ashtyn Parker knows one thing for certain--people you care about leave without a backward glance. A football scholarship would finally give her the chance to leave. So she pours everything into winning a state championship, until her boyfriend and star quarterback betrays them all by joining their rival team. Ashtyn needs a new game plan, but it requires trusting Derek—someone she barely knows, someone born to break the rules. Is she willing to put her heart on the line to try and win it all?

Review:
I love everything I've read by Simone Elkeles, she is one of my favorite teen/ya authors. So far my favorite is the Perfect Chemistry Series but this is a close second. I love Ashtyn's smart mouth and Derek's wit, they are fire and gasoline together. Simone makes it easy to fall in love with these characters and leaves you wanting more.

Derek Fitzgerald is a trouble maker, always coming up with schemes. It's all in good fun until he pulls the ultimate prank and takes it a little too far and gets himself expelled from private school. With nowhere else to go he is forced to go with his new step mom and step brother back to her hometown while his dad is deployed and Derek is not happy about this at all!

Ashtyn lives and breathes football, it's her escape from everything, her past, her dad's lack of everything and it gives her a sense of accomplishment. Being the only girl on her schools football team she knows she has to work two times harder than the guys to prove herself and gain their respect. Everything looks good for her future, she was accepted to a football camp for the summer and if she can prove herself she may have a chance at a scholarship.

Out of the blue her sister shows up with a kid and her step-son Derek, who Ashtyn soon realizes she can't stand. Every time her and Derek are in the same room they are at each other's throat, making smart remarks and throwing insults at each other. As if having him there is not enough, her boyfriend, the star quarterback betrays her and team. With no one else to turn to for help she is forced to turn to Derek.

You guys are going to love this and I really hope that Simone will make a series out of this, I would love to read more about her fellow teammates.
